THE QUAI DE LA LOIRE RESIDENCE

HISTORY

The second residence built “outside the walls” of the Cité internationale

The Lila Residence was the first, and the Quai de la Loire residence is the second house governed by the Cité internationale located outside of the historic Boulevard Jourdan campus. The residence is located in Paris’ 19th arrondissement on the edge of the Villette canal; it opened its doors to students in 2007.

Refurbished storehouses

The Quai de la Loire Residence was built in what used to be the Magasins Généraux, storehouses constructed between 1845 and 1853 to store goods such as grains, oil and flour that were shipped into Paris via the Canal de l’Ourcq. The renovated building includes the student residence as well as artists’ workshops, exhibition areas, a boating centre and a restaurant.

The Quai de Loire Residence is managed by the Fondation nationale, Cité internationale universitaire de Paris. Residents also have access to all cultural events organised by the Cité universitaire as well as to its theatre.
